Spring Cotillion

I’m thinking there must be an old-fashioned spring cotillion occurring here in the mountains.

A cotillion is a formal dance where debutantes are presented to society clothed in dazzling gowns. Like the debutantes, the mountains are wearing their most beautiful spring finery, gowns if you please. The gowns I am referring to are the tree’s new leaf coverings in different hues of green.

The mountains have also donned lovely pastel shades of flower bonnets…colors so vivid you feel as if you can taste them. Gardens and waysides vie for your attention around every twist and turn.

Ground coverings of phlox are the mountains shoes of choice, displaying their dainty pale blue flowers…ready to join the dance.

The hollows are sending you an invitation to the spring ball, but hurry, like Cinderella’s dance, time will flee, birthing summer's own form of beauty.

Sweet readers, how I wish you were here to enjoy this loveliness from my porch swing. My dear friend, Jennifer, said she has already spotted the first firefly of the season, which I believe is providing lighting for the celebration.

The cotillion has begun!

Come go home with me next time,

Dee Dee
