Thistledown Hollow

By Dee Dee Parker
Thistledown Hollow

Dear Readers,

Welcome.

It's been a while since I've posted...there is a lot going on in this world, and much of it is concerning. As a needed respite from often repeated news reports, I hope to fix your mind's eye on a make believe hollow, one bearing a strong resemblance to the one I actually live in. Thistledown Hollow, our destination, and those who live there was birthed from my imagination.

The information below will introduce you to a few of the Thistledown residents. I've learned to love these gentle people and hope you will too. I am working on a map of the hollow and hope to have it finished soon.

In Thistledown Hollow, a charming mix of engaging characters will capture your heart and lift your spirits as you join them here each week. Let these dear folks enrich your life with their mountain wisdom and infuse your souls with faith that's been tested and found true. You'll want to do as the welcome sign says when you enter the Thistledown Hollow community...COME EARLY... Stay LATE. In every post you will meet one of the hollow's residents.

  • Aunt Mat...(Mattie Artie Lucrecia Mayapple) the best cook in the hollow, having twenty-six county fair ribbons to prove her skills.
  • Amos Edwards...older preacher at the white clapboard Thistledown Hollow Church that sits firmly rooted in God's word along Peaceful Path. Amos is always ready to offer a scripture and minister to his flock. Callie Mae is Amos's kind wife, always standing beside her husband.
  • Hub Pate...a farmer that grows champion pumpkins and feeds most of the hollow residents from his vast garden. Hub feels God called him to this ministry after having known hunger in his childhood.
  • Dessie...Hub's wife, the proud owner of the hollow's finest stocked spring-houses.
  • Bobby Joe Messer...bee keeper and owner of a honey stand,The Hive, a gathering place for the men of the hollow to gossip and play a game of checkers.
We will meet more residents each time you visit. I hope the cat, Starlight, and the dog,Traveler, will bring you as much joy as they do those living up and down the hollow.

I will post recipes from the residents that will make your mouth water just from reading the delicious ingredients. I'll also share folklore and music from the hollow. There will be lots more to share and some really neat surprises and giveaways await you on your visits

I forgot to mention Hub Pate dropped by yesterday with a passel of asparagus. I like to cook mine in just a little butter. I add a pinch of salt and pepper and cook them until they are tender. Some folks like to add a little minced garlic and apple vinegar. Hub said things are greening-up now and his garden will be coming in strong very soon.

How do you prepare asparagus?

I pray the good Lord gives you a good week...be kind to each other.

"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You,     because he trusts on You." Isaiah 26:3 NKJV

Come go home with me again soon. You are loved and welcomed in Thistledown Hollow. I am praying for you, dear readers.

Dee Dee
