Affairs of the Heart

Dear Sweet Reader,

I love the sweetness that February brings with boxes of chocolates, bouquets of flowers, cards and all the loveliness of Valentine's day. We here at the Gazette hope you will enjoy seeing how the hollow is preparing for Cupid's arrival.

Church Projects

Project #1

Ladies, gather all your material that will fit the Valentine theme and come help the
ladies of our two hollow churches make heart banners to take to Resting Place Nursing Facility to brighten the residents rooms. Mozelle Joyner, who will head up this endeavor, says she would be grateful to all who would bring their portable sewing machines to the classroom at Ivy On The Rock Church.

NOTE: Ladies, Mozelle says the classroom is on the first floor of the church meaning there will be no stairs to navigate. She mentions this classroom has been recently renovated for the class member's comfort and the metal chairs have been outfitted with foam cushions.

Project # 2

Ladies, it's time to bring all the teacups you've gathered from thrift stores etc. and bring them to Joette Tyler's home on Turkey Waddle Road for a time of fellowship as you fill the teacups with African violets. The flowers will be supplied by Posies By Aletha...your one stop shop for flowers and ribbons of all colors and widths.

Hairdos and Makeup Don'ts  owner Marcella Caney is excited to introduce you to a special order of Valentine inspired lipsticks and glosses. In the pink family she recommends Pink Pucker Up, and in the red tones Red Roses is a favorite. Marcella feels her gloss pick would have to be Sparkle of Love (has a light touch of gold specks throughout).

Hollow Happenings

We here in the hollow have a unique custom concerning Valentines...it is called Throwing Valentines. Children prepare to secretly take Valentine cards to their friends homes and tap the door lightly with a stick to let those inside know a card has been delivered. The card giver shouts Valentine then runs and hides to remain anonymous. In the past, small rocks were thrown on the porches to alert the recipient, but this practice was deemed dangerous. How exciting it is to wait for that tap, tap, tap, and hear Valentine ring out!

Bobby Joe Messer at The Hive says come by and see the honey dippers he's carved for Valentines, sporting a pretty heart on top. He also says the stand is only opened for the week before Valentines day due to the stand's lack of warmth. The dippers will be 20% off with the purchase of a medium size jar of honey.

Medical and Mishaps

We here in the hollow would like to extend a wish for a speedy recovery to Flossy O'Dale after her fender-bender over on Morning Glory Trail. Miss Flossy said a rabbit ran in front of her car and she turned a mite too fast and took out a birdhouse hanging from a shepherds crook in Les Pringle's front yard. Miss Flossy sustained a sprained wrist and suffered a bad case of nerves after the event. Miss Flossy, when contacted by The Gazette to enquire as to her health, said it most certainly not her age of eighty six that caused the mishap, but the blame lay sorely with the actions of the errant rabbit.

Krissy Caruthers reminds everyone her chocolate covered strawberries
will be featured at Beautiful Gifts for The Discerning Shopper, known locally as just Beautiful. Yum! Krissy told The Gazette that the shipment of strawberries that came in are plump and sweet. She reports she is now speaking again to her husband after he made the remark as how the strawberries were a lot like her.

Words of Wisdom

"When you arise in the morning, think of what a privilege it is to be alive  to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love."     Marcus Aurelius

Happy Valentines Day Dear Readers!

May it be filled with love and happiness and lots of chocolate!
