Be a Rainbow

by Dee Dee Parker
Welcome Sweet Readers,

Thistledown Hollow was pleased to have many visitors here for Father's Day. Both of our hollow churches were overflowing. The men honored on their special day were:

 Daniel Smith:  oldest father

 Justin Peterson: youngest father

Kirk Swanger slipped in right under the deadline and won the father with the most children when his wife, Cora, gave birth to the cutest twins, Cale and Gail Swanger. It was said in jest that Kirk was seen driving up and down Balsam Tree Road, the bumpiest road hereabouts, hoping Cora would have the babies before midnight.

In good hollow citizenship, Kirk shared his gift of two jars of honey with Wiley Kern, here before, always the father with the most children.

Wedding Bells
Constance's dress
The engagement of Tina Josey and Jase Wilcox is happily announced. The wedding will be celebrated next spring. The exact date is not being printed due to a mixup in the church signup sheet on the calendar. It seems another wedding was recorded for the same day as Tina and Jase's desired date. Tina's mother and grandmother were both married on May 8th, so she was hoping to carry on the tradition. The other couple, one of whom is a granddaughter of a hollow resident, still wants to keep her May 8th wedding as her fiancĂ© will have just returned from military service.

Preacher Amos is counseling with the couple and hoping to get the mishap settled. I heard that several hollow businesses will give free wedding incentives to the couple that accepts a new date. Maryanne Free is offering a glamour shot package to the bride and bridesmaids. The gift package will be a shot of each of the bridal party, their favorite choice, with more shots available for purchase.

Perfectly good Mason jars

Giveaway

Millie Atkins has two boxes of canning jars to give away. She said, "Now, I don't have lids and rings, mind you, but the jars are in perfect condition. I won't charge you for the jars, just drop a little extra in the church offering plate this Sunday."

Medical and Mishaps
While engaging in a spirited game of backyard football, Curtis Helms suffered a broken ankle after tripping over his great pyrenees, Duke. Duke escaped without injury. The ambulance driver noted that Curtis carried the football on the stretcher, and this comes as no surprise as the Helms family is very competitive. Letty, the Helms matriarch, said they were going to start displaying hospital bills instead of trophies after games with hollow residents.

Garden Dilemma
The rose in better days
Pantyhose on rose
Dreema Pitts is sad to report her Dreema's Delite Rose, her entry for the county fair, has been injured. She thinks the high winds we endured yesterday was the culprit. Hopefully, Dreema added, there will be enough time before the fair for the rose to recover. She has lovingly tied up the broken branches with some old stockings, so as to not further injure the bush. We all wish her the best.

Hollow Happenings

Camp Creek Annual Cleanup Day will start at 9:00 am next Tuesday...weather permitting. After the cleanup, there will be hamburgers and all of the trimmings at the community center.

Thistledown Hollow Card Ministry needs: The Thistledown Hollow card writing team, lead by Etta Pressley, relates the team is getting low on wedding, baby, and get well cards. Etta says to drop your items off in the rocking chair on her porch. Etta keeps meticulous records of the funds spent on cards and stamps.

Susie Mae said the naming of the Ladies Book Club would be open for another week. Susie appreciates all the interest that has been shown and the many suggestions she has gotten.

Shocking Hairdryer #2
Hair Do's and Makeup Don'ts will be closed Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Marcella asked for the ladies who have standing appointments not to get in a tizzy...she will work you in before the weekend. Marcella's two hair dryers are being replaced. She said she overheard one of her patrons say the dryers look liked they came over on the Mayflower and decided they did need to go after she received a light shock from dryer #2. When the outdated dryers were moved, Marcella said the linoleum needed updating. After picking a new floor covering, Marcella saw a need for new curtains. All of the changes is the reason for the two-day-closing.

Sweet Reader,

You are loved and welcomed here. Be kind to each other.

When was a time someone was a rainbow in your clouds?
Or when have you been a rainbow to someone?
Or truth be told, have you been in a tizzy lately?

I'm still taking suggestions on the book club name.
