A Whisper of Spring

Dear Sweet Reader,

I'm so happy you stopped to spend a little time in Thistledown Hollow. We know here in the hollow that there is more winter to come and that is a fact with my hand held up. The snow totals have been small so far this season...I am grieving not having my bowl of snow cream yet. We sometimes have snow until April so my bowl will be at the ready...but God given whispers of spring are popping up in yards and on the mountain sides. The crocus and daffodils are in abundance filling our hearts with the feeling of renewal of spirits.

Wedding Bells

LaWanda and Carson Busby announce the wedding of their daughter Gina to Gentry Dawes this coming weekend. Due to an unfortunate storm on Valentine's Day, the outside wedding regrettably had to be called off. After buckets of tears, Gina and Gentry pieced the wedding back together salvaging what they could of their decorations and food. After all, Carson said, "What could be better for an anytime-wedding than hearts?" He added that it would sure help his pocketbook to recycle the wedding items already bought. Hollow folk offered the couple the use of their freezers to house the food because most of the flowers were of the artificial type. Carson, who is known for, and readily admits to being extremely thrifty (and that is kindly stated), is thrilled with the outcome.

Marcella Caney is proud to promote her new facial hair removal system. She said her shop is the first in the area to acquire the machine and the only way her small shop got it was due to her cousin Dewey Soul's job with the manufacturing company. Marcella invites those with pesky upper lip issues to come by and check out how the system works. Dewey guarantees no pain is associated with the removal of hair.

Give Aways

Tine Sutton is looking to find someone who would like a box full of quilt scraps who makes lap quilts for people taking medical treatments. She told the Gazette that old man Arthur Ritis was playing havoc on her hands and that she hoped to get back to the worthy cause of lap quilting before long. Your Thistledown Hollow hopes that too, Tine.

Medical Mishaps

Jarvis Hopewell sustained a sprained wrist while attempting to climb his backyard bank in hopes of reaching a clump of daffodils. Jarvis said his wife strongly encouraged him to retrieve the bouquet for her and that she would be cooking his favorite meal plus a coconut cake to ease his pain. His love of coconut cake prompted him to overlook the incident, but he fully intends to plant daffodils in a low lying area of his yard!

Dreema's Devine Dresses

Dreema's Devine Dresses has a new shipment of dresses suited for Easter. Dreema says the floral designs are truly lovely and she carries a large array of accessories that will complete each and every ensemble.

Hollow Happenings

A Soup Bowl Sunday is planned for Sunday next. Both of our hollow churches will meet after services at Ivy On The Rock's fellowship hall. Bring your favorite soup...cornbread will be provided by the women's groups of both churches. Banana pudding is the featured dessert.

The Mason Jar Relics are encouraged to attend a practice of the band next Thursday at The Hive. Several new songs are in the practice lineup that hold real promise, Mace Cutshaw shared.

A big congratulations to Sally Mae Julie Justice on the birth of her 20th grandchild! The baby is a girl and one of two names will be chosen for the little darling. Sally Mae Julie said the two names that are in the running are Sally Jean or Greta Mae. Sallie Mae Julie said she will be honored by either, jokingly adding her children are running out of names due to the sheer amount of new arrivals.

Words of Wisdom

Thistledownians, enjoy those beautiful God given whispers of Spring.

Much love

  1. I so enjoy reading the Gazette. Thank you for the updates, especially about Marcella’s facial hair removal machine. And tell Sallie Mae Julie that I hope the new grandbaby is named Greta Mae. I just love the name Greta. Fondly, Cathy Jane
